Manchester City legend Sergio Agüero has spoken about his possible foray into football management and coaching.
İdman.biz reports that the Argentine forward, who is the club's all-time leading goalscorer with 260 goals, has often faced questions about whether he might embark on a coaching career after retiring from professional football in 2021.
Due to his legendary status at the club and his close ties with the fans, rumors have also circulated that he might one day return to Manchester in another role – such as a coach or manager.
Many former teammates who played with Agüero during the same period have already started coaching careers in Europe: for example, Vincent Kompany is currently at Bayern Munich, while Pablo Zabaleta works with the Albanian national team. However, Agüero has focused his attention primarily on media, business, and ambassadorial activities.
His success as a broadcaster and entrepreneur suggests that his post-football path may differ from those who choose traditional coaching or management roles.
In recent months, discussions among City fans about the former footballer returning to the club have increased. Although Pep Guardiola has a contract with the club until 2027, speculation continues about who might replace him afterward. Some fans even mention Kompany as a potential candidate in the long term.
Agüero also clarified his current position on this topic in an interview with City Xtra: "I've said before: I don't see myself as a coach. You have to prepare very seriously for that, and it's a very responsible job."
The former Argentine international continued: "Maybe in the future, I could be involved in some other role – for example, management. It's not clear yet. But I'm happy with my current projects, and there are many of them. Managing them requires a lot of work, but it's also very exciting."
Currently, the 37-year-old Agüero is staying away from a coaching career, focusing on business projects, media appearances, and ambassadorial roles with Manchester City and other organizations.
Looking to the future, however, the door is not completely closed for him. Agüero's openness to the subject of "management" suggests that he could take on a role in club leadership or ambassadorship in the future.
Manchester City itself often uses its former players in global football operations and within the City Football Group. Thus, Agüero could also become part of this developing story – just in a different role.
