Italy's sports minister, Andrea Abodi, has responded to comments made by FIFA president Gianni Infantino regarding Italy's inability to qualify for the World Cup.
Sport.Biz reports that Infantino had previously stated that Italy would only be able to qualify for the World Cup finals if 64 teams participated in the tournament.
"Given the great distance between Italy and Mexico, we will likely need to discuss this joke with him over the phone," said Italy's sports minister in a statement.
Note that the Italian national team failed to qualify for the World Cup finals for the third consecutive time, losing to Bosnia and Herzegovina in a penalty shootout in April this year.
