Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong will be unable to play for five to six months due to an internal lateral ligament injury he sustained while playing for the Netherlands national team.
According to the information given by Sport.Biz citing AS, the player will not play again until 2027.
AS had previously stated that Barcelona believed the Netherlands was to blame for the worsening of the 29-year-old footballer's injury. De Jong suffered the injury in the 1/16 finals of the 2026 World Cup against Morocco (1:1, 2:3 in the penalty shootout), but played 110 minutes. The Catalan club also believes that the midfielder himself could have asked for a substitution in that match.
