"The abolition of the Reserve League in Azerbaijan is a matter of discussion." Sport24.az reports that this was stated by AFFA Executive Vice President Sarkhan Hajiyev in a statement to journalists.
He stated that some players from the U-20 national team played in this championship:
"Others play in the AFFA Youth League. We stopped the championships after discussing it both with the Professional Football League and internally. We had to do this. Because otherwise, clubs might not be able to perform as they wished in the competitions. The abolition of the Reserve League is on the agenda. Currently, the AFFA Executive Committee is discussing it. No decision has been made yet. If the Reserve League is not abolished, a format change is also possible. There may also be a format change in the AFFA Youth League. The coaching staff of the U-20 team has already submitted the training schedule to us. The U-20 World Championship is a priority issue for us. As AFFA, we will try to adapt other leagues to the training camp."
It should be reminded that the U-20 will be in a training camp in Gabala until April 26. The team will participate in the FIFA U-20 World Championship to be held in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan in 2027.
