Footballer's house attacked, wife and child kidnapped

The house of Jackson Rodriguez, a footballer of the Ecuadorian club "Emelec", has been raided.

İdman.biz reports that armed criminals kidnapped his wife and five-year-old child.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 02:50 at night. Although the family was asleep at the time, they suddenly heard the lock on the front door clicking. After that, Rodriguez hid under the bed.

Police Colonel Edison Rodriguez told local media about the matter: "The criminals knew exactly who they were looking for."

According to reports, the raiders immediately asked the footballer's wife where her husband was. After she said that Rodriguez was not at home, the criminals took the woman and child.

The criminals then fled in a pickup truck. Rodriguez saw the car leaving and called the police.

In Ecuador, athletes are often attacked by gangs of robbers. In December last year, footballer Pedro Perlaza was kidnapped, but a few days later he was released by the police after a shootout with the criminals.

Just ten days ago, the Ecuadorian government declared a state of emergency in nine regions of the country. This includes the Guayas province, where Guayaquil is located.

The South American country has been facing violence and crime for years. In the months of January-March alone, 2,345 violent deaths were recorded.

The declaration of a state of emergency allows the authorities to mobilize security forces to fight organized crime.
