FIFA plans to extend the halftime break at the 2026 World Cup final due to performances by musicians Justin Bieber, Shakira, BTS, Madonna, Burna Boy, Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel, and the PS22 choir.
Sports.Biz reports this according to The Athletic.
The show will take place directly on the field of the "MetLife" stadium during the break. Therefore, the organizers will have to set up and dismantle the stage within the allotted time. According to the source, FIFA expects the break to last no more than 20 minutes.
FIFA previously announced that the show would last 11 minutes and called it an "iconic celebration of the intersection of sports, music, and global influence". Two years ago, Shakira performed at the American Cup final at the "Hard Rock" stadium, and Argentina and Colombia had to wait about 26 minutes for the second half to start.
