Emin Mahmudov, the captain of the Azerbaijani national team, scored a goal in the qualifying match for the 2026 World Cup against the Ukrainian team, setting a historic record.
"Report" informs that the midfielder has become the most productive footballer by bringing the number of his goals in the national team to 15.
He broke the 21-year-old record belonging to former striker Gurban Gurbanov.
The head coach of "Qarabag" scored 14 times in 68 matches he played in the national team from 1992-2005. Gurbanov scored his last goal in 2004 in a friendly match against Latvia (2:2). Emin Mahmudov reached 15 goals in the 56th match of the Azerbaijani national team, which he has been defending since 2016.
