The Independent Commission of the English Premier League has fined Chelsea £10.75 million (approximately €12.44 million) for financial violations that occurred during Roman Abramovich's tenure.
Report reports that the Premier League press service has released this information.
According to the decision, Chelsea's academy has been banned from transferring new players for 9 months. In addition, a one-year conditional transfer ban has been imposed on the main team within a two-year probationary period.
The investigation revealed that between 2011 and 2018, third parties associated with the club made undisclosed payments to players, unregistered agents, and others. Since these payments were effectively for the benefit of Chelsea, they should have been reported by the club as official financial transactions.
The club also admitted that the failure to disclose and concealment of these payments meant a violation of the obligation to properly inform the Premier League.
When determining the penalty, Chelsea's voluntary reporting of the violations, their admission of them, and full cooperation with the investigation during the investigation period were taken into account as mitigating circumstances.
According to reports, the investigation began in 2022, after the club's former leadership informed the Premier League about possible financial violations.
