"The abolition of the Reserve League in Azerbaijan is a topic of discussion."
Idman.Biz reports that this was stated by AFFA Executive Vice President Sarkhan Hajiyev in a statement to journalists.
He stated that some players from the U-20 national team played in this championship:
"Others play in the AFFA Youth League. We stopped the championships after discussing with both the Professional Football League and internally. We had to do this. Because otherwise, the clubs might not be able to perform as they wanted in the competitions. The abolition of the Reserve League is on the agenda. The AFFA Executive Committee is currently discussing this. No decision has been made yet. If the Reserve League is not abolished, a format change is also possible. There may also be a format change in the AFFA Youth League. The technical staff of the U-20 team have already submitted the training schedule to us. The U-20 World Championship is a priority for us. As AFFA, we will try to adapt other leagues to the training camp."
It should be noted that the U-20 national team will continue its preparations in Gabala until April 26. The team will participate in the FIFA U-20 World Championship, which will be held in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan in 2027.
