Edson Lopes Gama, a 16-year-old goalkeeper for an amateur team in the Brazilian state of Amazonas, died after saving a penalty with his chest during training.
"Report" reports with reference to foreign media that the ball hit the area between the player's sternum and diaphragm.
The powerful impact caused the goalkeeper to fall to the ground and experience severe pain. The goalkeeper, who was taken to the hospital by ambulance in 11 hours, could not be saved.
It should be noted that Edson Lopes Gama had no heart disease before the incident.
