"The prize fund of the Azerbaijan Chess Championship is planned to be increased in 2027".
Idman.Biz reports that this was stated by Mahir Mammadov, President of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation (ACF), in his statement to journalists after the opening ceremony of the national championship.
"This year's Azerbaijan Championship is also eagerly awaited. The championship will be organized according to the Olympic system based on FIDE game rules. As you know, the prize fund of the competition has been increased. It is planned to increase the prize fund a little more next year. All chess players took part in the championship. Some grandmasters were unable to participate in the competition.
Chess player Vasif Durarbeyli lives in America. Namig Guliyev was supposed to come from France and participate in the tournament. As for Teymur Rajabov, he rarely participates in classical chess competitions. All the strong players will compete in the women's competition. We must state that chess players who do not participate in the national championship are deprived of the support program of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation," Mammadov said.
It should be noted that 46 chess players will participate in the Azerbaijan Championship. The tournament will be held between February 6-22. 30 male and 16 female participants will compete. The total prize fund of the competition is 92 thousand manats. 62 thousand manats of this amount belongs to the men's championship, and 30 thousand manats to the women's championship.
