The performance of the Azerbaijani boxing team at the World Cup held in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, was satisfactory.
Idman.biz reports that this was stated by Nariman Abdullayev, the senior coach of the team, in his statement to "Report".
He emphasized that despite the fact that the team's leaders could not go to the competition, other boxers performed well: "Several leaders of the team, including Alfonso Dominquez, could not go to the competition due to injury. Despite this, our boxers, Subhan Mamedov (50 kg), showed a very good result in his weight category. Although it was the first time he competed among adults in this competition. The fight could have even ended in our favor. But the opposite happened, the opponent was also a very well-known and strong boxer. As for the higher weights, our boxers won two fights. It was difficult to defeat Kazakh boxers. There were some shortcomings. But the team's performance at the World Cup is, of course, satisfactory."
Abdullayev hopes that they will go to the upcoming world championship with a full team: "We will prepare for the world championship. I hope we can go to the competition with a full team."
It should be noted that Azerbaijani boxers Subhan Mamedov (50 kg), Mahammadali Gasimzade (60 kg) and Mahammad Abdullayev (+90 kg) won bronze medals at the World Cup held in Kazakhstan.
