The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has postponed the FIBA World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers in Groups C and D until June.
Idman.Biz reports that the reason is the escalating conflict in the Middle East between Iran and the combined forces of the US and Israel.
"Considering the events taking place in the region today, FIBA has decided to postpone all games in Groups C and D of the FIBA World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers on Monday, March 2.
The following games have been canceled: Group C – Iran - Syria, Iraq - Jordan; Group D – Lebanon - India, Qatar - Saudi Arabia.
FIBA is in close contact with the respective national federations and is taking the necessary measures to ensure the safety of the teams, officials and staff involved in these games. The above-mentioned Group C and D games will be held at the same venues at the beginning of the third qualifying window planned for the end of June. The updated schedule will be announced later," the press release said.
