The Gabala-Khankendi ultramarathon has concluded. Sport24.az reports that the final stage, which began in Aghdam, finished in Khankendi.
The winner of the final stage among men was Turkish athlete Ömer Alkanoğlu. His compatriot Üzeyir Söylemez and Georgian Giorgi Lomidze took 2nd and 3rd places, respectively.
In the women's competition, Turkish athlete Hasibe Demir was first, Ukrainian Olena Shevchenko was second, and Azerbaijani Leyla Abdinova was third.
Based on the results of the four stages, Üzeyir Söylemez and Olena Shevchenko were awarded the main prize of the competition (4000 manats). Ömer Alkanoğlu and Hasibe Demir took 2nd place (3000 manats), and Giorgi Lomidze and Maria Kalpakova took 3rd place (2000 manats).
It should be noted that the ultramarathon, jointly organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Baku City Circuit, and the Azerbaijan Athletics Federation, started on April 10 from Gabala, the "Sports Capital". 81 athletes participated in the race covering a distance of 192 kilometers. The ultramarathon participants included athletes from Turkey, Ukraine, Russia, Moldova, and Georgia. The participants ran 55 km from Gabala to Aghdash, 65 km from Aghdash to Barda, 44 km from Barda to Aghdam, and finally 28 km from Aghdam to Khankendi.
