Yassin Bounou, the goalkeeper of the Moroccan national team, has become one of the goalkeepers with the most penalty saves in the World Cup.
Sport.Biz reports that he saved a penalty kick by Kilian Mbappe in the quarterfinal match against France at the 2026 World Cup.
According to Opta, this is his fourth penalty save in the World Cup.
Similar to the Moroccan, German Harald Schumacher, Croatian Dominik Livakovic and Daniel Subasic, Argentine Sergio Goycochea and Spanish Iker Casillas have also saved four penalties each in the World Cup. The statistics have been kept since 1996.
The 2026 World Cup will be held in Mexico, Canada, and the USA from June 11 to July 19. Argentina is the current champion.
