Uruguay has already been eliminated from the 2026 World Cup, and Marcelo Bielsa is expected to resign as head coach. Gallardo is said to be the most likely candidate for the position.
Uruguay finished third in Group H with two points from three matches. Spain won the group with seven points, while Cape Verde finished second with three points. Saudi Arabia finished fourth.
