WC-2026: Toni Penso to make history as second female referee

Today's match between the Czech Republic and South Africa will be refereed by a woman. According to Sport24.az, ESPN reported this information.

 

39-year-old American Toni Penso will become the second female referee in the men's World Cup, making history.

 

Note that Frenchwoman Stéphanie Frappart was the first female referee at the 2022 World Cup. She refereed the group stage match between Germany and Costa Rica (4-2).
