US journalist Abigail Velas has apologized for her comments about Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Idman.Biz reports that the ABC 7 employee released a statement on her social media account regarding her comments during the live broadcast of the 2026 World Cup.
The US national team will face Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 1/16 final of the tournament. Velas announced that she couldn't find Bosnia on the map, didn't know anything about the country, and didn't want to know. She also emphasized the strength of the US national team, using phrases that challenged the opponent.

The journalist later apologized in a statement:
"I tried to have a little fun during the World Cup, but I went too far and made an unthoughtful, disrespectful, and out-of-place comment during the live broadcast. I apologize to the people of Bosnia and the Bosnia team. The World Cup should bring communities together around the world, and my comment was not in line with that spirit. I wish all teams the best of luck on their path to the World Cup."

Note that the 1/16 final match between the US and Bosnia and Herzegovina will be held in San Francisco on July 1.
