UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin has stated that football rules have become incomprehensible lately. The head of the top football body said that excessive VAR interventions and vague rules, especially handball, confuse fans and prolong matches. Sport24.az reports that he made a statement about this to "Sportklub":
"Fans cannot understand why the rules are interpreted differently from match to match, and I don't understand them anymore either. For example, handball: is it a penalty or not, was it intentional or not... How can you understand this? You are not a psychiatrist.
We want to explain to the referees that they make the decision on the field. VAR should only intervene in cases of obvious and clear errors. And these interventions should be short, not when reviewing a single incident lasts 10-15 minutes, as sometimes happens in the Spanish or English leagues."
