Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah has been called up to the Egyptian national team to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations.
Idman.Biz reports that the continental tournament is scheduled to take place between December 21 and January 18.
The Egyptian player's presence with the national team means that Liverpool will be without one of their key players for a significant part of their match schedule.
Mohamed Salah has been included in the preliminary squad of the Egyptian national team. According to FIFA rules, clubs may have to release their players for international duties two weeks before the start of the tournament. Therefore, the player could potentially leave Liverpool on December 7.
The Egyptian national team is planning to hold a training camp, including a friendly match against Nigeria on December 14. After that, the team will travel to Morocco on December 17 for final preparations for the competition. However, Liverpool hopes to keep the 33-year-old player in the squad until the game against Brighton on December 13.
Given the possible time of his departure and the duration of Egypt's participation in the Africa Cup of Nations, Mohamed Salah is likely to miss several matches. These include matches against Tottenham (December 20), Wolverhampton (December 27), and Leeds (January 1). How long the attacker will be out will depend on how well Egypt performs in the continental championship and how long they stay in the tournament.
