Turkish national team defender Merih Demiral has apologized to fans. In a statement shared on his social media account, the experienced footballer apologized to fans for the unsuccessful outing at DC-2026.
"The Turkish nation has a place above our heads. Our nation can also criticize us and do it best. We respect and agree with every criticism of our nation. We came to this tournament with big hopes, but unfortunately, we fell short of our goals. We sincerely apologize to our people for the disappointment and sadness we have caused.
We fought on the field until the last drop of our energy. But we know it wasn't enough and we take responsibility. We are aware that we have disappointed everyone from 7 to 70 and that we have not met expectations. We will work even harder to proudly wear the crescent-star jersey and to make our nation proud again", Demiral said.
