Former reserve team manager Kike Alvarez has been appointed as the new manager of Girona.
Sport.Biz reports that he has signed a one-year contract. The club management has chosen him as part of their strategy to trust the internal staff and maintain continuity in the sports project.
In the previous two seasons, Alvarez managed "Girona B". Under his leadership, the team was promoted from Tercera to Segunda Division and then consolidated its position in the same division. Before joining the Catalan club, Alvarez worked at the "Barcelona" academy and also worked as a coach at "Villarreal", "Alaves", and "Levante".
Along with the head coach, his entire staff will move from the reserve team to the first team. His brother Óscar Alvarez, who played for "Girona" from 2008 to 2010, will be his assistant, and Jordi Balsells will be in charge of physical training. The new coaching staff has been tasked with returning the team to the Primera División.
