The Iranian Football Federation has appealed to FIFA, reporting the destruction of sports infrastructure, including football stadiums, as a result of the military conflict in the country.
Lent.az reports that the letter disseminated by Iran's ISNA agency stated:
"We regret to inform you that as a result of the attack on the Islamic Republic, Iran's sports infrastructure, especially the football field, has suffered serious damage."
Previously, Iranian officials did not rule out the possibility that the national team might refuse to participate in the 2026 World Cup, given the current geopolitical situation.
Also, US President Donald Trump stated that the Iranian national team's participation in the tournament was inappropriate.
