The Liberal Democrats have proposed that England captain Harry Kane be awarded a knighthood for his services to football.
Sport24.az reports that the proposal was made by Liberal Democrat MP Layla Moran, who has called on MPs from all parties and future Prime Minister Andrew Burnham to support the proposal:
"Harry Kane has shown leadership and character both on and off the pitch, defending the values that make our country great.
If Andrew Burnham wants to start his premiership on a positive note, he should support my campaign.
This is about uniting the country.
I hope every England fan will urge their MP to sign this proposal!
Let's support the boys in the match against Mexico on Sunday and let Harry Kane return home not only with the trophy but also with the knighthood he deserves".
Note that the England national team will face Mexico in the 1/8 finals of the DC-2026.
Harry Kane has already scored 5 goals in the tournament.
