Georgios Donis, the head coach of the Saudi Arabia team, commented on the 0:4 defeat to Spain in the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.
İdman.Biz reports that the Greek specialist said that the team could not stop the opponent near the penalty area and made many mistakes.
"We couldn't keep Spain near our penalty area and made too many mistakes. When the game is not going well and we concede three goals in a short time, the team's confidence decreases. We tried to calm the players down, but it affected them. Such situations often happen in big tournaments. It's not about fear, but rather uncertainty in an unsuccessful scenario," Donis said.
The head coach also specially noted the individual qualities of Spain's striker Lamin Yamal. According to him, players who can gain an advantage in one-on-one episodes make a difference in such matches.
Donis added that Yamal consistently proves this in Spain and will become even more dangerous after reaching optimal physical form.
The Saudi Arabia team will face Cape Verde in the last round of the group stage on June 27.
