FIFA President Gianni Infantino left the US to attend the funeral of Qatar's former emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 74. According to Sport24.az, the information was reported by The Mirror newspaper.
After watching the England-Norway match (2:1) on Sunday, the FIFA president flew to Doha from Miami on a private plane. The plane landed in the Qatari capital the next day.
It is expected that Infantino will return to the US before the semi-finals today.
Infantino has very close relations with Qatar and its ruling family, the Al-Thanis. This country hosted the FIFA World Cup for the first time in the Middle East in 2022.
Note that a four-day national mourning has been declared in Qatar starting from Sunday.
