French national team coach Didier Deschamps spoke about the upcoming match against England for third place at the 2026 World Cup.
Sport.Biz reports that this match will be Deschamps' last as the coach of the French national team, which he has been leading since 2012.
"I feel responsible for the outcome of the upcoming match, it's not a friendly match. This is not the game we were aiming for, but it should be. This is a match for third place and I, along with my team and players, have a responsibility to do everything in my power to win. The English didn't want this match, we didn't want it either, but that's the reality, that's the goal, and I'm thinking about it.
I know deep down that the curtain will soon fall. I don't want to disappoint anyone, but I know I will miss the French national team, but being there in this form, having both great moments and difficult trials, was a chance I had. The curtain falls, but life goes on. I don't know what will happen next, but I'm a positive person by nature. Everything will be fine. The French national team is the best thing that has happened in my professional life. For twenty-five years, it has left a mark on the memory of men and women (Deschamps played for the French national team from 1989 to 2000 - ed.), especially since it has created unforgettable memories. But the most important thing is always what's ahead", - the coach said.
