Congo DR has scored its first goal in the World Cup after 52 years since its debut match.
Sport.Biz reports that forward Yohan Vissa equalized the score with a header in the fifth minute of extra time in a group stage match against Portugal at the 2026 World Cup.
In the 1974 World Cup, the Congo DR team finished last in a group with Yugoslavia, Brazil, and Scotland, losing all three matches with a score of 0:14. It should be noted that from 1971 to 1997, Congo DR was known as Zaire and participated in tournaments as the Zaire national team.
Only Bolivia's debut and first goal in the World Cup had a longer gap. The team first played in the World Cup in 1930 but didn't score its first goal until 1994.
