Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has signed an anti-record in the match against Norway in the 1/8 finals of the 2026 World Cup.
Sport.Biz reports that the 28-year-old footballer was unable to take advantage of a penalty in regular time. Thus, he became the first Brazilian player to miss a penalty during a match at the World Championships in the last 40 years.
This was previously recorded in 1986, when Brazilian legend Zico was unable to score an 11-meter penalty in the quarterfinal match of the World Cup against France.
Note that the main and extra time of that match ended with a score of 1:1. Brazil lost to France in a penalty shootout and said goodbye to the World Cup.
